Grants for the Needy
Life can be hard, sometime. Here at SLEMCO, we get that. So do our members. SLEMCO’s Operation Round-Up Grant Program was developed to help those less fortunate when tough times come calling.
Thousands of SLEMCO members generously volunteer to have their monthly electric bills rounded up to the nearest dollar to help those in need throughout the community. Funds raised are used to provide grants for a variety of needs including eye glasses, hearing aids, handicap modifications, wheelchair ramps, medicine and food. This program is not used to pay for home repairs or utility bills.
The application process for grants include filling out an application form and a face-to-face interview with every applicant at their home. If an applicant meets the grants’ criteria, their application is then recommended for approval to our Round-Up board of directors. Once approved, the funds are distributed.
Participation by SLEMCO members in this program is voluntary and may be cancelled at any time. The average yearly donation to participate ranges from a single penny to just $12, with the average being $6 per year to really make a difference in someone’s life. SLEMCO takes great care to ensure each applicant is thoroughly screened and deserving of our Operation Round-Up grants.
